Henry Raddick returns with War statement

"It's what Grendel would have wanted"

Celebrity Amazon.com reviewer Henry Raddick has broken a six-month silence with a hawkish statement on the Iraq war.

Raddick's absence from the site coincided with a domestic tragedy - the death of his beloved pug, he told The Register:

"Grendel was carried off by an eagle which had escaped from a hawk conservancy," he told us, "and is missing presumed dead."

It's not Raddick's first venture into politics. "I dress to the right," he has previously declared. A part-time minister who runs an obesity support group, Raddick reviewed Tony Blair's New Britain: My Vision of a Young Country concluding, "I admire any man who slaughters his own food".

What inspired this latest comment?

"Opinion on the war in the Raddick household is currently like the UN Security Council," he told us. "I am the American, British, Spanish and Bulgarian governments, my son is France and the other traitors, and my daughter is Guinea and the other ones who we'll soon be ignoring again."

"Marjorie, funnily enough, looks a bit like Hans Blix but otherwise doesn't have any worthwhile opinions on the subject of war. I hoped that by buying Tierney's book I could rally everyone to the just cause by reminding them of who will be spearheading the glorious fight. It hasn't really worked, but let me tell you, war is what Grendel would have wanted."

As for the family, "Jonathan is about to do exam re-sits, Stephanie is into some crazy teenage Wiccan shit, and Marjorie's weight-gain beyond even her capacity for denial."

Raddick's reviews have won him an NPR appearance and a keen following in blogland, with Internet marketing consultant Bill McCloskey noting that "this guy has written one of the funniest, post-modern novels, totally though his book reviews."

His identity remains a mystery, but last year a spokesman for HRH Prince Charles denied that the heir to the British throne was the author. ®
