Wacky email addys: Don't go there

How not to apply for a job

Surprise, surprise, a job application sent from a wacky email address could see your job application going straight to Delete.

So you send a job application from your work addy? Think again, a survey of 200 UK Human Resources (HR) managers reveals that 36 per cent say that "emailing your job application from work will harm your chances of being asked in for an interview". By doing this, you are showing poor judgment at best, and at worst you are displaying the traits of - quelle horreur! - an email abuser.

Only nine per cent of HR managers would take no action against their own staff who were applying for jobs from a work email addy.

OK then so you email your CV from a home addy. A silly moniker will see half of HR managers reject your application immediately on the grounds of immaturity or inappropriateness. So what to do then? easy, according to Yahoo! Mail which commissioned the survey. Get a free, dull Yahoo addy and make sure you don't store your CV on your work PC. Instead, use a free online storage such as - you're ahead of us, already - as Yahoo! Briefcase, says Yahoo! ®
