Intel sales flatter than a pancake

A little better than expected

Intel saw its first fiscal quarter revenue beat out expectations even as chip and memory sales remained relatively cool.

For the period ending in March, Intel pulled in $915 million in net income, which is 2 percent less than the same quarter last year. The company posted total revenue of $6.75 billion, equating to 14 cents EPS (earnings per share).

Analysts were looking for Intel to earn 12 cents a share on $6.7 billion in revenue.

The average price for an Intel processor went up during the quarter as overall shipments fell. Sales in the Intel Architecture business came in just below last year's total.

Flash memory revenue also declined, as Intel last month warned might be the case.

Revenue fell in the Americas but was slightly higher in Europe and Asia-Pacific. ®
