Businesses love broadband
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Nine out of ten businesses now hooked up to broadband wouldn't go back to dial-up access - even if it was free.
So said BT's chief broadband officer, Alison Ritchie, who used a brief speech at Internet World conference and exhibition to underline BT's commitment to broadband.
Trade and Industry Secretary, Patricia Hewitt, was also at today's show. She used a keynote speech to help launch a campaign against "fat cat" salaries.
While acknowledging that many of the UK's business chiefs were rewarded for their hard work, she said that a small minority of directors made "disastrous misjudgements" yet still walked away with a pocket-full of cash.
Elsewhere at Internet World, BT Wholesale declined to say when it would reach the magic milestone of one million ADSL connections.
Although it confirmed it had well over 950,000 connections, a spokeswoman for the company declined to comment further except to say that an announcement would be made "soon".
And in a dig at a recent announcement by NTL and Telewest that they have signed up more than one million cable broadband punters, BT Wholesale said in a footnote to one of their documents: "Cable companies have announced that they had passed 1 million - we cannot comment on whether NTL's 128k service is truly a broadband service."
