Bandwidth delivered at Godspeed

Sun Microsystems has found its networked computer and done so in style.

Yesterday, The Register was forced to expose Sun's lack of network connections and bandwidth at the JavaOne conference. Sun preaches the value of the network with unrelenting vigor and makes billions as a result. So it does not seem out of line that it could match rivals such as Intel, Hewlett-Packard and IBM with more than a modicum of high-speed connections.

Just one day after we notified Sun of the disconnect between its words and actions, 18 Ethernet drops appeared and wireless access spread out far and wide across the Moscone Convention Center. Reporters everywhere cheered, and stories were filed en masse.

Several readers noted that minimal wireless access was available on day one, but most agreed more work needed to be done to take care of users and make Sun live up to its own billing. The network is the computer after all.
