SITA bags Eland

Buys Irish integrator

SITA, the data networking operator for the airline industry, has bought a small Irish integrator to improve its ecommerce skills. Its acquisition, Dublin-based Eland Technologies, has 60 staff based in Ireland, the UK and the USA. Terms are undisclosed.

SITA is folding Eland into its Passenger and Travel Solutions business unit. Eland brings to the party specialised middleware products as well as integration skills. And this will, says Francesco Violante, SITA MD, "bolster SITA's ability to deliver next generation services to support air transport organisations. It also greatly enhances the capability of SITA to help our customers to cut costs as they look to web-enable and transform their businesses."

Every year SITA conducts with Airline Business the Airline IT Trends Survey. The company says this
"has consistently shown that airlines consider a lack of IT people with an understanding of airline processes as one of the top three obstacles they face in achieving their IT strategy. Web experts that understand how to apply new technology effectively to the airline business are clearly in short supply."

Eland's flagship product is called Runway and SITA says it will continue to support all Eland customers and continue development of all its technologies.

Eland has a useful "complementary" customer roster which includes Abacus International, AeroMexico, American Airlines, Copa Airlines, EDS, Hotwire, Lufthansa Systems, Mexicana, Navigant, Rosenbluth International, Sabre, Star Alliance, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic. ®
