ATI RV360 reference board specs leak

In production next month, apparently

ATI's RV360 graphics chip - the successor to the Radeon 9600's RV350 chip - will go into volume production next month and will appear in cards clocked at 450MHz or higher soon after.

So claims Xbit Labs, citing sources close to ATI. The company has prepared three RV360-based reference cards for OEMs, targeting high-end gaming, mid-range multimedia and low-end consumer markets, respectively.

The top-end 'Thunder Storm' design clocks the chip at 450MHz and backs it up with 800MHz DDR memory across a 128-bit dual-channel bus. Some sources suggest the board specifies the use of GDDR II memory.

The mid-range 'Thunderhead' also runs the RV360 at 450MHz, but the memory - again connected across a dual-channel bus - is clocked at 700MHz. Up to 128MB of DDR will be supported.

The low-end board, aka 'Rainbow', features the 450MHz RV360 and up to 256MB of DDR clocked at 550MHz

All three reference cards, says Xbit Labs, offer TV and DVI output. The two lower-end boards also offer video-in and video-out ports.

The RV360 is expected to be fabbed by TSMC. ®
