Check Point targets MEs with firewall/ VPN combo

Mind the (market) gap

Internet security firm Check Point is targeting medium-sized companies with a firewall/VPN package designed for organisations with up to 500 employees.

Check Point Express includes firewall, VPN, network and application attack protection combined with multi-site, centralised management functions. The package is designed to be easy to purchase, install and manage.

The product - the Israeli vendor's first all-in-one security product for smaller shops - is essentially a cut-down version of Check Point's flagship VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation with Application Intelligence product. While going head to head with NetScreen and Cisco at the high end, Check Point Express will help the firewall giant fend off competition at the low end from the likes of WatchGuard and Symantec (which also has enterprise-class products.

Last year, Check Point introduced a security product called S-box targeted at home users and very small businesses. The company's traditional strength is in large enterprises and telcos, so it latest product suite is designed to fill a gap in the size of company Check Point's products are geared towards.

Check Point Express is available on all "Secured by Check Point" appliances running Check Point Next Generation with Application Intelligence, including Nokia and Sun. Other platform options include Check Point SecurePlatform and Windows, Unix and Linux servers.
