Telewest Business to axe 120 jobs

Telewest Business is to axe 15 per cent of its workforce - around 120 jobs - over the next nine months.

The cableco declined to say exactly where the jobs would be lost except to say that the cuts would be made across the whole of Telewest's business division.

Although headcount is due to fall, no offices are to be closed as part of the shake-up. Telewest's consumer operation is unaffected by this particular reorganisation, the company said.

A spokeswoman for Telewest Business denied the move was linked to the company's capital restructuring plans.

And she declined to comment on speculation that the job cuts were in preparation for a possible much-talked-about merger with cableco NTL.

Yesterday, Telewest confirmed that 20 or so jobs were under threat at Telewest Business' call centre in Peterborough.
