Intel takes Celeron to 2.8GHz

Now officially targeting notebooks

Intel yesterday extended the Celeron desktop processor line to 2.8GHz.

Actually, we say 'desktop', but we note that Intel is now describing the part as being aimed at "desktop and mobile PCs", further blurring the lines between desktop and notebooks offerings.

Whatever systems the new part ends up in, it will be fabbed at 130nm, support a 400MHz frontside bus and ship in a 478-pin package, the chip giant said.

In 1000-unit batches, the 2.8GHz Celeron costs $117. ®
