Telewest reports strong BB growth

389,000 and counting

Telewest signed up 38,000 new broadband punters during the last quarter, the company announced today.

At the end of September, the cableco had 367,000 broadband users. As of yesterday, that number had swelled to 389,000.

What's more, Telewest insists growth remains strong, with 32,000 signed up to Telewest's 1Mb service and 7,000 hooked up to its 2Mb offering, which was launched back in May.

The healthy increase in broadband numbers helped drive up the cableco's Internet-related revenues 51 per cent to £86 million.

Publishing Q3 results to the end of September, Telewest reported a slight rise in turnover from £336 million in 2002 to £339 million.

Earnings before interest etc (EBITDA) rose 18 per cent to £114 million.

MD Charles Burdick said that 15 per cent of its customers now take the triple play of TV, telephony and broadband with ARPU (average revenue per user) remaining the "highest of any European cable company".

Shares in Telewest fell 0.03p to 2.1p by mid morning. ®
