Vodafone has begun to pitch Bsquare's Power Handheld ultra-mobile wireless Windows PC to enterprise customers who want full-screen web browsing and email.
The Power Handheld sports a 4in, 16-bit colour 680 x 480 LCD and offers what Bsquare claims is the "richest handheld email and web app experience available". the screen is large enough to show many web sites in full, without the page reformatting you usually see with handhelds. It can display 70 file types sent as email attachments, and supports Blackberry-style push email.
The device packs in a dual-band GSM/GPRS phone receiver, with 900/1900MHz and 900/1800MHz versions available. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are supported via SD IO card add-ins. Data can also be transferred by USB cable and infra-red. Instead of a mouse, the device uses a stylus. And there's a pull-out micro QWERTY keyboard for data entry.
The device is powered by a 400MHz Intel XScale processor running Windows CE .NET. It contains 64MB or 128MB of RAM, depending on which spec. you choose, and 32MB or 64MB of Flash, of which 10MB or 32MB is available for user data.
The Power Handheld measures 14 x 8.7 x 2cm (5.6 x 3.5 x 0.8in) and weighs 290g (10.2oz). It contains a 1900mAh rechargeable battery, enough for four hours' talk time, three hours web browsing and 120 hours standby time, claims Bsquare.
As yet the Power Handheld is only available in what Bsquare calls "limited quantities". ®
