419ers plug into plasma TV market
Unique Estonian job opportunity
If your job has recently been outsourced, offshored or even rightshored or bestshored, then don't despair - a unique employment opportunity is about to hit an inbox near you.
Yes indeed, leading Estonian plasma TV outfit Slim Display is looking for international representatives to punt its products to a gadget-hungry world:
Nicely done. Were you to take up Slim Display on its offer you would then be sent a registration form on which to enter personal and bank details. Completing this would be mistake.
Despite the company's claimed long trading history, its domain was only registered on 29 March 2004, apparently by one Roz Smith of New York. And there is no such thing as the "Official Companies Register of Estonia", as far as our research can tell.
Sadly, this has Lagos - rather than Tallinn - written all over it. Spamwatch has already noted this scam, marking it down as a bit of light phishing. However, we reckon punters are being set up for the old "unforeseen expenses regarding your registration" advance fee sting.
Still, it's a nice effort, what with the snappy logo and all - even if that has been shamelessly ripped off from the entirely legitimate www.slimdisplay.com of sunny Florida.
Since readers who are interested in getting more information cannot at present access the Slim Display website, perhaps sending a suitably enthusiastic message to sales@slimdisplay.net might kick-start that new career.
Or, if you don't fancy plasma TVs, we're reliably informed that you may well receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get into the oil business. Resist the temptation. ®

Thanks to Morgan Grubb and Jim Keir for the info on Nigerian job opportunities. Cheers also to Steven Wilkins for pointing us in the direction of the delicious www.419eater.com - a site dedicated entirely to the humiliation of scamming ne'er-do-wells. Highly recommended.
