Intel joins Liberty Alliance

Liberté, Securité, Interoperabilité

Intel and Oracle are among six companies and organisations which have decided to join the Liberty Alliance - an open standards body with 157 active organisation members.

The Alliance sets specifications and certifies standards to allow for secure and safe online identification to improve security and interoperability. It was launched in 2002 partly to counter Passport - the proprietary sign-on software from Microsoft.

The Business Industry Political Action Committee(BIPAC), Gamefederation, Intel, Kayak Internactive, Mobile Telephony Networks, Oracle and Sharp Technologies have all joined as sponsor members.

Another three companies have upgraded their membership to become sponsors of the Alliance rather than just members. They are Computer Associates, Giesecke & Devrient and Trustgenix.

Liberty Alliance president Michael Barratt said: "Constant infusion of new members helps drive this industry forward and furthers Liberty's goals and vision of building an organization that represents the interests of a diverse group of companies doing business throughout the world."

The Alliance particularly welcomed the arrival of gaming and entertainment companies like Gamefederation, Kayak Interactive and Sharp Laboratories because it will broaden the alliance's expertise. The group is setting up a gaming services group to find ways to develop and deploy Liberty Alliance services in the gaming sector.
