Bulldog takes on BT with broadband - voice combo

Bulldog Communications has begun taking orders for a combined broadband and telephone service in central London. The service is run on Bulldog's own LLU (local loop unbundled) network, using its kit located in BT's own telephone exchanges.

At the moment, the 4Mbps package is available in central London only, but is to be rolled-out to other parts of the country next year. The service is aimed at home users and small businesses.

Bulldog has several packages on offer based on the 4Mbps service. For £52 a month (inc VAT), customers can get the Super@ctive package with 4Mbps broadband and unlimited calls to UK landlines thrown in too. Bulldog Inter@ctive costs £40 a month and includes pay-as-you-go telephone charges.

Said Bulldog chief exec Richard Greco: "Experiencing the internet at 4Mbps is like going from riding a bicycle to driving a high performance sports car. It means you can download music, film or software files faster than ever before. Information is instant. It makes other broadband services feel like dial-up. This is the way the internet is supposed to be."

Separately, a spokesman for Bulldog said that the Cable & Wireless-owned operator had now resolved the service issues that have plagued the ISP recently, leaving many people furious at being left without broadband access. ®
