Redbus suffers another power cut

Punters - and kit - left in the dark

Redbus Interhouse has suffered yet another power cut at its Harbour Exchange Square location in London last night knocking its customers offline.

The scale of the outage is not yet known, but it's understood to have hit two floors of Redbus' colocation facility and lasted for between 20 and 40 minutes. A number of customers have contacted The Register about last night's incident, although Redbus has yet to confirm what happened.

Details are still sketchy since no one at Redbus was available for comment at the time of writing. Indeed, Redbus' lack of communication has angered customers who claim they're still in the dark over what happened.

One told us: "As yet no one has managed to get a straight answer from Redbus as to what went wrong this time - after the outage a few months ago it was promised that this could not happen again."

In June, Redbus apologised to pusers after its Harbour Exchange Square was floored by a power cut. At the time chief exec Mike Tobin said: "We are still investigating but it seems a high voltage transformer failed. It gave a warning which activated the UPS system but didn't activate the generator. We are very sorry and customers with SLAs will of course be compensated."

To make matters worse, last week Redbus's German operation issued a statement bragging about how its data centre's "unsurpassed resiliency" meant it was able to survive a recent black-out in Frankfurt, which hit the city's commercial district. It was able to keep servers up and running while everyone else was left in the dark after an explosion in a Frankfurt transformer station ®
