Stelios eyes Europe for easyMobile service

Germany, Greece and the Netherlands get the look

EasyMobile - the yet-to-be-launched discount mobile phone outfit headed by serial entrepreneur Stelios Haji-Ioannou - could be prepared to launch its service in Europe, according to the Financial Times.

EasyMobile, which is run by Danish telecoms outfit, TDC, based on a wholesale service from T-Mobile under the Easy brand, is due to be launched in the UK in March.

However, the man behind no-frills airline easyJet has also agreed to partner TDC in a dozen European countries. And now it seems that Germany, Greece and the Netherlands have been singled as possible targets for expansion.

Although easyMobile is keen to expand its business in Europe, Haji-Ioannou told the financial paper that the company's main priority was the UK.

In November, Easy Group confirmed that T-Mobile would be its network operator in the UK for the easyMobile service. At this stage it remains unclear whether T-Mobile would partner easyMobile in other European markets.

According to the blurb, the easyMobile service is based on a simple business premise: "affordable pricing schemes on an easy-to-use web-based customer interface".

A similar discount mobilephoneco launched by TDC in Denmark has seen its market share jump to ten per cent in just four years. ®
