European workers say outsourcing is good ...

... says survey by outsourcing company


A large number of European employees consider outsourcing to be an opportunity for them to develop their careers. Almost half of the respondents to a LogicaCMG survey cited outsourcing as an opportunity for them to develop further specialisation in their field of work.

The survey polled 200 employees in large companies in the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands with employees in France and the Netherlands reacting most positively to outsourcing - seven out of 10 employees in these countries viewed outsourcing as a way for them to revitalise their careers.

Whilst the mention of outsourcing can cause concern amongst employees - 84 per cent would worry about the impending changes that outsourcing may bring - 70 per cent of participants said they felt more satisfied in their new job than before.

"Once we were able to understand what was going to happen then we felt less nervous about it," said one French respondent. "Knowing what was going to happen and what might change was really helpful."

Keeping employees informed of the changes, listening to staff feedback and making sure that current staff feel part of the new team can help the outsourcing process to move more smoothly and prevent losing staff, according to the survey. On the flip side if a company does not conduct the process efficiently and openly it risks losing its employees as 29 percent of respondents would seriously consider moving jobs if the process was handled badly - 40 per cent in the Netherlands, 34 pe rcent in the UK, 19 per cent in France and 16 per cent in Germany.

"Experience tells us that the outsourcing projects that succeed, benefit from good planning, clear objectives and communications. It is important to apply an inclusive approach to the business change process from a dedicated project team that incorporates the needs of both employees and management," said Paul Dunn, management consultant at LogicaCMG.

    While the US Supreme Court considers an emergency petition to reinstate a preliminary injunction against Texas' social media law HB 20, the US Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday partially upheld a similar injunction against Florida's social media law, SB 7072.

    Both Florida and Texas last year passed laws that impose content moderation restrictions, editorial disclosure obligations, and user-data access requirements on large online social networks. The Republican governors of both states justified the laws by claiming that social media sites have been trying to censor conservative voices, an allegation that has not been supported by evidence.

    Multiple studies addressing this issue say right-wing folk aren't being censored. They have found that social media sites try to take down or block misinformation, which researchers say is more common from right-leaning sources.

    US President Joe Biden has heralded an Indo-Pacific trade deal signed by several nations that do not include Taiwan. At the same time, Biden warned China that America would help defend Taiwan from attack; it is home to a critical slice of the global chip industry, after all. 

    The agreement, known as the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), is still in its infancy, with today's announcement enabling the United States and the other 12 participating countries to begin negotiating "rules of the road that ensure [US businesses] can compete in the Indo-Pacific," the White House said. 

    Along with America, other IPEF signatories are Australia, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Combined, the White House said, the 13 countries participating in the IPEF make up 40 percent of the global economy.
