BT biz broadband billing balls-up
Forgot to charge 700 customers
BT has forgotten to bill 700 of its business broadband punters, according to a report by the UK Broadband User Group. It's seen a copy of a memo which suggests that some of its business users have been using broadband - but haven't been charged.
Said the memo: "Customers appear to be using a Business Broadband Connection even though on our records they do not appear to be being billed." UK-Bug also goes on to report that the cock-up is costing BT between £20,000 and £70,000 a month. The telco's due to send out bills to recover the money later this month.
A spokesman for BT confirmed to the The Register that some of its business customers had not been billed on time following "maintenance of its billing system". However, he said the figure of 700 small businesses affected was inaccurate maintaining that that only a "small percentage" of companies were hit.
He did not comment on how much money BT had lost as part of the billing error but insisted companies would be "back-billed". ®
