Eclipse sorry for broadband downtime

Software snafu blamed

UK ISP Eclipse has apologised to punters left without broadband earlier this week and is promising to learn from its mistakes.

In an email to punters - many of whom are business users - the Exeter-based ISP blamed a "software problem" for the snafu which started on Monday afternoon and affected a large number of the ISP's 60,000 punters.

Although Eclipse engineers resolved the glitch by breakfast on Tuesday morning, the Kingston Communications-owned ISP "identified a limited number of customers whose broadband connection sessions were inactive within BT's network".

"Eclipse engineers worked with BT during the day to resolve all outstanding problems," it said.

It went on: "We would like to reassure all our customers that the service is now fully restored and that we will incorporate lessons learnt from these issues to improve our systems and processes in the future." ®
