Mio unveils GPS-equipped PocketPC

Turn right onto the A201...

Mio has launched its latest PocketPC with integrated GPS. The DigiWalker A201 is the slightly chunkier follow-up to the Mio 168, this time boasting a GPS receiver that not only folds up from the back of the device but can swivel to allow the unit to be used in landscape mode. Rotating the antenna automatically reformats the display.

The new machine contains a 312MHz Intel XScale 270 processor back up with 64MB of Flash ROM and 64MB of SDRAM. The unit sports the usual 3.5in, 240 x 320, 65,536-colour display, and runs Windows Mobile 5.0. The GPS module is a SirfStar III.

Wireless connectivity is limited to Bluetooth, but there's an SD IO slot for third-part Wi-Fi cards or simply more memory. Mio bundles dialer software to allow the A201 to connect to the Internet via a Bluetooth phone. The unit's battery is removable, and is rated at 1200mAh.

The unit ships with in-car connection accessories, Mio's own MioMap route-planning software, and UK and Ireland maps from Navteq.

Available now, the A201 costs around £235. ®
