Dell websites drop LCD TV line-up

While demand outstrips supply

Exclusive Dell insisted today its LCD TV line-up will return after the company was forced to pull the products from its EMEA websites late last month. Describing the company as a "victim of its own success", a Dell spokeswoman today admitted the company could not meet current demand for its 32in and 37in tellies.

Reg Hardware readers spotted the sudden absence of the LCDs from Dell's UK website earlier this week. The company told us today the move had been made to slash the number of new orders so it can focus on satisfying requests already made for the products. However, Dell will continue to take new orders by phone.

"This is a temporary measure," the spokeswoman said. "We expect the models to be back online by the end of March."

Dell hadn't anticipated the popularity of the TVs, she said, citing higher interest in the products than the company's seasonal business forecast had indicated, with "significant demand" for the LCD TVs coming after the Christmas sales period.

In the UK and Europe, Delll offers just two LCD TVs, with 32in and 37in screen sizes respectively. In the US, the range runs from 19in screens up to the 37in model - the company also offers a pair of plasma screens at 42in and 50in, respectively. The 32in and 37in versions are both HD Ready. ®
