Next-gen video iPod to launch 'March/April'

With a 4in display, apparently

Apple's upcoming video-oriented iPod will sport a 4in widescreen display, with the height of the landscape-oriented unit comparable to existing iPods' widths, presumably to allow it to use Apple's 'universal' dock.

According to a ThinkSecret report, the movie player could be announced as early as the end of the month or the beginning of April - much depends on Apple's ability to strike video download deals with content companies.

Clearly, it needs to be able to offer more relevant content than the music videos that are the mainstay of its iTunes Music Store video downloads at the moment. At this stage it's unclear what the 4in display's resolution will be - it seems unlikely it will match the current iPod's 320 x 240 screen. ®
