US authorities bust P2P child porn chat room

Attacks were streamed live

The US Attorney General said yesterday that 27 people in the US, Canada, Australia and England has been arrested following an investigation into an internet chat room hosting child pornography.

US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, revealing the investigation in Chicago yesterday, said that undercover investigators had infiltrated the Kiddypics & Kiddyvids chat room, which had been used to trade “graphic images of child pornography – including live streaming video of adults sexually molesting children and infants.”

Charges brought in the US include possession, receipt, distribution and manufacture of child pornography, as well as conspiracy and other offences.

“The behaviour in these chat rooms – and the images these defendants sent around the world through ‘peer to peer’ file sharing programs and private instant messaging services – are the worst imaginable forms of child pornography,” said Gonzales.

Gonzales added that no one mentioned in yesterday’s indictment in Chicago has been convicted of a crime, “But we plan to prosecute them – and others involved in this vile chat room – to the fullest extent of the law.”

According to reports, the ring did not rely on a central server, but rather on the use of peer to peer technology to allow participants to exchange and broadcast content to one another. This made the ring harder to crack.®
