We have no doubt that there are those among you from the UK and the US who can bang on until the cows come home as to who exactly opened the world's first cybercafe, but we're about to put an end to this debate once and for all:

That's right. The Scots got in there first, way back in 1751 - no mean feat since the Americans reckon they didn't invent the internet until, well, you can argue that one amongst yourselves.

For the record, the cybercafe in question is in Saint Vincent Street, Glasgow. Our man on the spot, Charlie Dick, notes: "I knew Scots were good but I didn't realise how good we were." ®
