Cambodia bans 3G phones

Mobile porn clampdown

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has responded to a complaint from his wife that she'd received pornography on her 3G mobile in a manner befitting his Khmer Rouge past - by banning the technology altogether.

According to Reuters, Hun Sen announced the clampdown today to an assembly of Buddhist monks in Phnom Penh, with: "I have written to the Minister of Telecommunications to delay the use of certain mobile phones. We can wait 10 more years until we have managed to improve morality in society."

Cambodia's 3G network opened for business earlier this year, although Hun Sen's wife is clearly among the few who can afford the handsets. Her husband - who's run Cambodia for 20 years - admitted his other half had signed a petition demanding action against the tech. ®
