O2 to offer Motorola's i-mode SLVR

L7 coming later this month

UK carrier O2 is to add Motorola's L7 handset - aka the SLVR - to its selection of i-mode phones later this month, Reg Hardware has learned.

O2 currently offers an i-mode version of Motorola's L6 alongside three Samsung handsets equipped with the yellow 'i' button, the Z320i, S500i and S400i.

The 'L7 i-mode' - to give the handset its formal title - is said to be fitted with a 1.9in, 176 x 210, 262,144-colour display and a 1.3 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and a flash - that's a higher spec camera than the standard SLVR's VGA unit. The i-mode version also has Bluetooth 2.0, 60MB of on-board memory and the obligatory MP3 player.

Motorola announced the L7 i-mode in February this year, but the handset has remained in the shadow of the other SLVRs, most notably the Product Red version. O2 is the only carrier in the UK with an i-mode service.

O2 offers the L6 for £70 on a pay-as-you-go tariff, and the L7 is expected to come in at around £130. ®
