T-Mobile UK brings push email to MDA smart phones

Updates posted for older devices

T-Mobile UK has posted updates for its HTC-made MDA smart phone line-up that activate push email on the devices. In fact, the updates have been available since mid-June, but only yesterday did the carrier announce its support for the Windows Mobile 5.0 extensions.

The downloads, available here from the MDA III, MDA Pro, MDA Vario, MDA Compact and MDA Compact II, allow the updated device to hook into Microsoft Exchange 2003 servers running the OS' Service Pack 2 upgrade.

Server administrators also get a range of device security features, including mandated password protection and the ability to wipe the data on a remote device if it's believed it has fallen into the wrong hands.

The device updates also bring a number of email and synchronisation improvements, such as Outlook task syncing, contact pictures and remote access to companies' global address lists. Improved data compression means messages arrive more quickly, in general. ®
