Sony readies USB, Firewire 18x external DVD burner

Sony will ship its latest external DVD writer, the DRX-830UL-T, later this month, the company announced today. It's pitching the drive at both Mac and Windows users, bundling suitable burning software for both platforms, and equipping it with USB 2.0 and Firewire ports.

The DRX-830UL-T has an 18x writing capability designed to work with 16x DVD°R media, and it can handle dual-layer DVD°R discs too. It will write DVD°RW, DVD-RAM and CD-R/RW.

The drive comes bundled with Nero 7 Essential for Windows and Toast 6 Lite for Mac OS X. ®
