Samsung sends S60 slider phone West

Samsung's new i400 slider phone may not set the world alight with its technical details, but with its curvy styling and Nokia-designed S60 software it sure is a looker.

Aimed at "young professionals", the tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE handset sports a 2.3in, 240 x 320, 262,144-colour display; two-megapixel camera; Bluetooth 2.0 with stereo audio; twin speakers; and a MicroSD slot.

The i400 runs the Symbian operating system with Nokia's familiar S60 user interface sitting on top of it. It's the second S60 phone Samsung has brought to market - the first was last year's i520 smart phone. By contrast, Samsung sees the i400 as a more mainstream product.

The 92g, 10 x 5 x 1.6cm i400 goes on sale in Russia in July, but will appear on store shelves in other European countries soon after, Samsung said.
