Collabnet makes Eclipse distributed

Distributed development tools for Eclipse IDE

Distributed software development specialist CollabNet has released what it claims is the first distributed development platform for the Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE).

California-based CollabNet says its Desktop Eclipse Edition brings enterprise quality management tools to open source distributed development.

"It's the first step in a long-term project to integrate our whole product line with the Eclipse IDE. It brings management functions such as source code tracking and issues tracking within the IDE so developers no longer need to leave it to fulfil these tasks," says Isabelle Dumont, senior director of marketing at CollabNet.

CollabNet is the lead sponsor of the Subversion version control package for open source - recently rated as the top product in the market by Forrester.

"Although we are agnostic when it comes to IDEs, we noticed that developers who use Subversion also use Eclipse - so it makes sense to bring Subversion and the Eclipse environment together," Dumont explains.

CollabNet Desktop, Eclipse Edition, uses the Eclipse Mylar user interface to update and synchronise project tasks, issues or artefacts which are tracked and stored in the CollabNet development platform. Tasks are synchronised automatically with the Subversion-based source code trees in Eclipse and the CollabNet repositories.

It also provides a web interface for CollabNet's CUBiT global virtualisation solution, which enables Eclipse users to load and build software applications and deploy them to physical or virtual server configurations.

The package is available as a free download with further information from CollabNet's discussion forum. ®
