AMD posts Catalyst 7.7

Tweaks, performance boosts ahoy

AMD has posted the latest version of its Catalyst driver package for ATI Radeon graphics chips. The new version, 7.7, focuses on enhancements to AMD's Avivo image enhancement technology, but it also incorporates some performance tweaks.

The performance gains centre on Far Cry when played using an ATI Radeon HD 2400, 2600 and 2900 XT card in single and Crossfire configurations. Expect to see framerates jump at least 13.2 per cent, AMD said.

The 2600 series and the 2900 XT also get 12x and 24x anti-aliasing support, chosen using Catalyst Control Center's Anti-Aliasing Edge Detect option.

Catalyst Control Center now features simplified Avivo set-up controls, particularly for Theatre Mode on the Radeon X1000 and HD 2000 cards and which now works under Windows Vista.

The HD 2000 also gets flesh tone colour controls, but this is only available on system running Vista.

AMD also updated the Linux version of Catalyst, using the new version to fix a selection of glitches.

The Windows XP, Windows Vista and Linux versions of Catalyst 7.7 are available now from ati.amd.com.
