Slickr player makes a bold promise

But will it deliver?

Venzero has created a multimedia-packed device which it claims "fulfils all your multimedia dreams". The Slickr measures 8.5 x 5.5 x 0.98cm, weighs 57g, and touts a 2.83in TFT QVGA screen capable of displaying 1.6 million colours - which is comparatively more colours than the iPod's 65,536.

It's hard to tell what its primary function is, but it certainly houses enough multimedia capabilities to keep most consumers entertained during, say, a bus ride. At its core the Slickr has 2GB of Flash-based memory, which can be bumped up to a maximum of 4GB through the built-in miniSD card reader.

The player supports music, videos, still images, a text document display in the MP3, WMA, WAV, AVI, JPEG and TXT file formats, and boasts an FM radio. It also has a built-in speaker.

The device includes a microphone that, by the aid of an external shortcut button, is designed to help you record 10 second song clips of tracks you hear and later want to buy/download but don't know the name of. Once the song clip has been recorded, users just synch their Slickr to a PC and the supporting software will find the unknown song's details and download it.

The Slickr is being launched in the US later this month for $129 and although a European release date is not yet set, it will retail for around £90 (€133).
