More compulsory redundancies

Yet more redundancies are on the way at CSC UK, managers learned on Monday.

The outsourcing firm announced it would be making more compulsory cutbacks in a conference call. Senior bosses refused to confirm how many would be for the chop, saying they had not yet decided. Global execs said in a statement that the knife would fall only on project leaders in the professional services division.

The formal statement said: "To ensure that professional services is an effective force... we need to restructure and reposition our project resource capablility."

Away from the management speak, in response to a staff question, the CSC manager leading the call said this would mean compulsory redundancy for project leaders who work on smaller accounts. There will be no shortfall in resources because such projects don't need leaders, he said.

The professional services division will aim to focus on bigger money deals. The workers who will be affected by the cutbacks will be notified after a consultation.

The news is sure to put more pressure on morale at CSC which, according to our contacts, is at an all-time low. The last round of redundancies, which was only in June, meant the sack for 300.

CSC refused to comment beyond saying the sackings would be part of its ongoing restructuring programme. Overall employee numbers will remain the same, it said. ®
