Welsh council workers turfed out over eBay addiction

Going, going, gone

Three Welsh council workers have lost their jobs after spending too long on eBay when they should have been working.

One worker at Neath Port Talbot council were sacked and another two quit after council bosses found the group spent up to two hours a day on the online auction site. The council reportedly had security software in place to prevent access to inappropriate webpages, such as porn sites, but not eBay and other legitimate websites.

Disciplinary actions followed an investigation into six workers by the local authority over allegations they spent too much time surfing shopping, travel and leisure websites instead of dealing with council business.

Graham Jones, head of strategic personnel at the council, told the Daily Telegraph that another one of the six was given a warning while the other two were still being investigated. ®
