Software as a Service (SaaS) delivery specialist OpSource has signed a technology partnership deal with data integration company MuleSource. Following a similar deal with Boomi earlier this month, OpSource says MuleSource's technology will provide a deeper level of data integration for its on-demand applications.
"We have a lot of customers doing different things with SaaS and MuleSource gives us a broad way to provide connections to the 200 applications we offer. We use it extensively to support our infrastructure but it does require a lot of programming," explains OpSource CEO Treb Ryan. "By contrast, Boomi has put together an integration service for around ten key applications which provides integration deep behind the firewall. Which one a customer uses depends on what level of integration they want," he continues.
The deal with MuleSource gives OpSource the Mule open source Enterprise Services Bus (ESB) as a basis for building scalable services through its OpSource On-Demand package. It also includes MuleSource's new MuleOnDemand service for managing data integration in a secure environment.
Ryan says that OpSource is keen to ride the current wave of interest in SaaS - while clearly differentiating itself from market leader salesforce.com: "Salesforce.com is the standard bearer for SaaS and has been very effective in getting people to think about integrated applications. But data integration is the big problem in SaaS at the moment and while a lot of customers want to integrate with salesforce.com, they also want to integrate with other applications beyond this and they need a platform to do it. These are our natural customers."
