Irish jobs safe following HP plant closure

One site fits all

No jobs are expected to be lost as a result of Hewlett-Packard's decision to close its Clonskeagh facility in Ireland, the company said.

Yesterday, HP announced plans to consolidate its Clonskeagh, Dublin 14 and Leixlip, Co Kildare facilities on a single site at Liffey Park Technology Campus in Leixlip, which will become the corporate headquarters for HP in Ireland.

However, in a statement the firm stressed that there would be no redundancies as a result of the move, which is being undertaken in order to reduce costs. As many as 1,000 employees are expected to transfer to the Leixlip facility.

"HP is highlighting its commitment to Ireland by creating one of the largest and most diverse technology campuses in the state with 28 nationalities and over 24 languages represented. The new campus will be distinguished by its unique combination of skills diversity and an innovative new work environment that further advances HP's leadership in the Irish market," said Martin Murphy, managing director, HP Ireland.

"While this move will result in a period of change for some personnel, we are confident that over the longer term, the consolidation of the Clonskeagh and Leixlip facilities will enable us to continue to grow our business profitably by achieving cost savings but will also deliver on our objective of improving the overall HP customer experience," he added.

Hewlett-Packard employs 4,000 people in Ireland, the majority of whom are based at the company's Leixlip plant. The company also has offices in Dublin, Belfast and Galway.
