PlayStation phone 'plausible, attractive' - Sony exec

Better games for your phone

A Sony executive has hinted that its PlayStation division and Sony Ericsson divisions may work together in the future, paving the way for the development of a PSP-cum-phone.

The shape of things to come?

Sony Computer Entertainment’s co-COO, Jim Ryan, speaking to India's Economic Times, said that “convergence with the two arms working together is definitely plausible” and that it would be “hugely intellectually seductive to have a console-oriented phone”.

He added that “Sony Ericsson and PlayStation would make a strong success story for Sony”.

Ryan’s statement builds on similar comments made by Sony Ericsson’s previous President, Miles Flint, back in September, when he said that applying the PlayStation brand to a series of mobile phones was a “possible future activity”.

A Sony patent application, unveiled back in June, has already hinted at a potential PSP phone design. The patent’s sketches show how the screen of a modified PSP could rotate alongside several added buttons, presumably for call make and break, etc.
