Motorola motivates movie makers with mobile

'Kick slider' successor, the Z10, kicks butt

CES Motorola launched it's successor to the impressive "kick slider" Z8, the Z10 at CES in Las Vegas. First seen in May last year, the Z8 was a packed full of features and the Z10 is no less so.

Looking virtually identical to the its black and green predecessor, the Z10 carries instead the same coal-coloured casing, but now sports a stylish silver trim. The handset itself carries the same footprint as the first model at 109 x 15.5 x 16.5mm and weighs in at 115g. It carries good connectivity as well, with dual-mode UMTS, 3.6Mb/s HSDPA, and quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge.

However, the most impressive features centre on film making, including 30 frames per second video capture, a storyboard editing application that allows the addition of soundtrack, commentary and visual effects, and a 3.2-megapixel camera with superfast burst mode that grabs three shots per second.

Motorola also showcased another addition to its handset range, the Rokr E8. This mobile measures in at 115 x 53 x 10.6mm and weighs 100g. It has quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge connectivity.

It sports a 2.0in, 240 x 320, 262,144-colour display; 2GB of internal memory with optional external memory support up to 4GB capacity; and a two-megapixel camera with 8x zoom, multi-shot photography, video capture and playback. It supports MIDI, MP3, AAC, AAC+, Enhanced AAC+, WMA, WAV, AMR-NB, and Real Audio formats.

Both the Z10 and E8 are expected to be available in the first quarter of this year but pricing details weren't disclosed. In addition, an enhanced Bluetooth headset, the S9-HD, was showcased and four wired music headsets, the EH70, EH50, EH25 and EH20.
