CodeGear's Delphi PHP suite gets nip and tuck job

What's in a name?

Borland Software's CodeGear subsidiary has refined its PHP development environment, Delphi for PHP. The tool continues to be associated with the older Delphi suite that helped make Borland's name.

Delphi for PHP 2.0 features a number of changes designed to build on the Delphi reputation for rapid-application development. These include HTML templates with embedded, dynamic PHP that CodeGear said lets you build applications visually, and an expanded Visual Component Library with support for PHP packages and libraries including Zend Technologies' PHP Framework.

Other changes are designed to help streamline work, with source code formatting, expanded code insights and code folding, PHP debugging and integrated PHP performance profiling and tuning.

As with version 1.0 of Delphi for PHP, launched in February 2007, the integrated development environment is not the Delphi IDE and does not generate the Delphi language. Users build their PHP applications using PHP, HTML and JavaScript instead. You can upgrade from version 1.0 for $179 or buy the full suite for $249 until June 2008.®
