All hail the skinny shooter

BenQ has launched what it claims is the world's slimmest compact camera so far, whilst also incorporating so-called user-friendly iPhone-esque touch controls.

BenQ's T850 is 14.9mm thick

The eight-megapixel T850 is 14.9mm thick, and sports a 3x optical zoom and maximum ISO sensitivity of 1600.

Smile detection has quickly become the must-have feature on compact cameras, with the T850 being no exception. But Bthe camera also has a setting dubbed Z Lighting, intended to allow users to adjust image lighting after shooting.

A 12 image burst capture option is also built in, as is the usual selection of pre-set image modes, including one for parties and another for fireworks. Movie mode can also be used to shoot mini motion pictures.

The camera’s functions are controlled through a circular arrangement of icons on the its 3in touchscreen. This gives the camera a distinct iPhone-esque operation feel, especially since, for example, photographs can be ‘swiped’ through by your fingertip.

Users can also digitally zoom in on pictures by double tapping on a particular area within a photograph and, if needs be, then crop the image around that point.

Storing pictures and films shouldn't be a problem, because the camera supports SD memory cards of up to 8GB and a USB 2.0 port is built in to help you quickly move images onto, say, your PC.

BenQ hasn’t announced a UK release date or price for the T850 yet.
