RM boss says school's out forever

Quits 'demanding' role after six years

RM yesterday announced that its head teacher honcho has resigned after more than 25 years with the computer supplier.

The firm, which specialises in software, services and systems for the UK education market, said that chief executive Tim Pearson will step down from his role to be replaced by current group managing director Terry Sweeney on 30 September 2008.

Pearson has worked at RM since 1981 and joined the company’s board in 1997. He oversaw the firm's internet and content strategy prior to being appointed CEO in February 2002.

“The last six years at RM have been demanding and very rewarding. However, for a while I've wanted to make some changes in my life, including moving to Northern Scotland with my family," said Pearson. “With the group in good shape, now is the right time to make the break. Having worked for RM for such a long time, I intend to take some time out before looking for new challenges.”

Sweeney joined RM in 1998 and became hardware solutions director four years later before slipping into managing director shoes in 2002.

Last month the firm pinned its hopes on the second half of the year after turning in sluggish revenue growth and a slide in profits for the first six months. ®
