Lesbian activists from the sun-kissed Sapphic luuurv island of Lesbos have been roundly licked in their battle to prevent gay gals dubbing themselves lesbians, the Beeb reports.
The anti-lesbian Lesbians, led by Dimitris Lambrou, back in April launched a legal action against the Greek Gay and Lesbian Union (Olke) claiming that aficionados of girl-on-girl had "seized" the islanders' name and were accordingly responsible for the their "psychological and moral rape".
In response, Olke spokesperson Evangelia Vlam thundered: "This affair is totally ridiculous. But if we are summoned by the courts, we will be heard."
And heard they were, since an Athens court ruled "there was no justification for their contention that they [the plaintiffs] felt slighted" and that "the word did not define the islanders' identity".
Olke's lawyer, Vassilis Chirdaris, told Reuters: "This is a good decision for lesbians everywhere."
The Lesbians, meanwhile, were ordered to cough court expenses of €230. They still have the right to appeal the decision. ®
We'd like to once again offer to the warring parties the compromise we suggested back in April: Greek lesbians in future call themselves Sapphists, true Lesbians call themselves Mytilenians, after the capital Mytilene - the name commonly used in Greece for the name of the whole island, and extra-Grecian lesbians beyond the reach of the country's legal system continue to use lesbian with gay abandon except when holidaying on Mytilene's popular lesbian Sapphic holiday resort of Eressos.
