BlackBerry clamshell pair leaked online

Online retailer slips up

Details of the first BlackBerry clamshell format phones have appeared online, following a mistake made by online retailer Expansys.

The BlackBerry 8210 and 8820 were said to look almost identical

The firm has since removed all trace of the two talkers, which were dubbed the 8210 and 8820, from its website. But an Expansys spokesman told Register Hardware admitted there was “a bit of a dispute because we released the details before BlackBerry had”.

Luckily, website Brighthand managed to sneak a peek at Expansys’ 8210 and 8820 webpages. Its report noted that both models are almost identical, visually. The only technical difference is that the 8210 has a GPS receiver whereas the 8220 has Wi-Fi.

Both phones also have a small, 160 x 128 external display and a 2.6in, 240 x 320 internal screen. The two handsets use the SureType keyboard, above which sits a navigation trackball.

Each phone has a two-megapixel camera on-board and supports Bluetooth and Micro SD memory cards. The duo will also play audio files and YouTube videos.

Expansys’ page apparently said both phones were quad-band devices, but made no mention of 3G connectivity. It didn’t mention a release date or price for the BlackBerry 8210 or 8820.
