A PS3 price reduction? You must be kidding!
SCEE President says: "Non!"
Sony has no intention of helping cash-strapped gamers avoid the credit crunch. The firm has confirmed that there’ll be no UK PlayStation 3 price cut this year.
David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), this week told website videogaming247 that SCEE is “not going to drop the price this year”.
Reeves added that games, rather than console prices, are still the driving factor behind hardware sales for SCEE. He claimed that this strategy would ultimately be the deciding element behind the PS3’s success in Europe.
Stateside, Xbox 360 gamers look set for more luck, because a promotional flyer for US retail firm RadioShack has revealed that console price cuts are coming to its shops next month.
Gamers will be able to get the 120GB Elite model for $400, instead of $450 (£242/€303), and the Arcade model for $200, down from $280 (£150/€188).
UK gamers can at least get their hands on a new 60GB Xbox 360 from today, which retails for around £200.
