EA Europe struggles squeezing out Spore

Login problems at launch

Electronic Arts can't seem to fix login problems preventing many customers from taking Spore online during its European launch day.

Since yesterday, many early customers have reported an inability to log into EA's UK servers. The errors messages appear to range from "invalid login" to "you do not have the proper spore.com privileges to use this product's online features."

"We are aware that many of you are having login problems with Spore. This is being investigated so please bare [sic] with us," an EA representative wrote Thursday on the official Spore forums.

The rep - dubbed "EAUK_Omni" - then began collecting information on the types of errors being received. EAUK_Omni added he was "not sure" what type of malfunction was causing the trouble.

As of today - the official launch date of Spore in Europe - EA appears no better off.

"We're aware of the issues and are looking into a resolution. In other words we're fixing it but unfortunately I don't have a time scale," the same rep posted when users began to demand an update.

While frustrating, online troubles are far from rare in popular games during launch. The likely problem is EA's servers giving up the ghost after being smacked by a massive amount of people logging in at the same time. But larger problems with infrastructure can't be entirely ruled out.

It should be noted that even those affected seem to still have the ability to play Spore offline. However, gamers won't be able to share their creations online which is one major appeal of the game. ®
