Microsoft has ditched its Jerry Seinfeld-fronted advertising campaign, after everyone thought it was crap.
According to Redmond's spinners, dropping the awkward, unfunny, boring ads now "was always the plan", Valleywag reports. A statement yesterday said: "We will be executing the second phase of our advertising campaign tomorrow, as planned from the start."
The campaign was the first fruit of Microsoft's $300m deal with so-hot-right-now ad agency Crispin Porter and Bogusky. The creative geniuses decided to pair Seinfeld with Bill Gates in a series of whimsical domestic vignettes.
The point of this remains obscure, but we think its got something to do with something called Vista. Whatever, Microsoft says its forthcoming ads will feature such stars as Eva Longoria and Pharrell Williams, and lay the smackdown on Apple's "I'm a Mac" ads.
Perhaps they'll be funny. Currently the party with best reason to laugh is Seinfeld, who reportedly trousered $10m for his performance. ®
