Android and Windows Mobile 'complementary', claims HTC

'But we'll still make more Windows Mobile phones.'

T-Mobile G1 manufacturer HTC plans to develop more handsets based on Android. It maintain this will not affect its Windows Mobile business - the Google platform and Microsoft's are “complementary”, it claimed.

According to a report by DigiTimes, John Wang, Chief Marketing Officer at HTC, said that both systems have their merits, and so handsets based on either platform will appeal to different users.

For example, he said, Windows Mobile offers high performance, interoperability and a large library of applications. Android is more flexible because of its open source architecture.

Wang added that Google’s Android launch will help HTC expand its product mix, but he admitted that Windows Mobile-based phones, such as the firm’s recently launched Touch HD, will continue to be HTC’s most important market.
