Parrot displays near-field photo frame

Displaying images just got easier

Digital photo frame connectivity options are usually pretty similar: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or memory cards. But manufacturer Parrot has designed one that’ll soak up your images using Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology.

The wireless data transfer technology, as used by London Underground’s Oyster system, enables anyone with an NFC-enabled mobile phone to transfer pictures to the Specchio by waving their handset next to it.

Parrot's Specchio: frame features NFC technology

Parrot said the frame’s NFC compatibility means that images are instantly transferred and displayed on the screen. NFC doesn’t require pre-pairing like Bluetooth does, although Specchio also supports that wireless technology too.

However, Specchio’s main drawback is that you can count the number of mobile phones with NFC that are available in the UK on one hand. Nokia’s 6212 does boast the wireless technology, but that’s just one device.

Specchio is more about Parrot pushing the boundaries of digital photo-frame technology, and ensuring that it’s seen as a leader in the (near) field.

Nonetheless, Specchio will be available next month for around $500 (£300/€340). A UK price hasn’t been displayed yet.
