PS3 prices slashed by Sony SonyStyle
Franchise model results in lower prices
PlayStation 3 price cuts have appeared on SonyStyle’s UK website, but Sony Europe has denied that it’s not responsible for the move because the website is a franchise.
David Wilson, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's spokesman-in-chief, told gaming website Spong that SonyStyle is free to “independently choose its own strategy of pricing and promotions”.
Kazuo Hirai, President and Group Chief Executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, said back in October that gamers shouldn’t hold out any hope for a PS3 price-cut this year.
SonyStyle this week slashed £40 ($59/€46) from the prices of both the 40GB and 80GB PS3 models, bringing the cost down to £249 and £259 ($383/€303), respectively.
That's a good deal on the 80GB PS3, but we've seen the 40GB model available for less than £249 at a number of other websites.
